Torry Holt knows a thing or two about winning Super Bowls as he was a member of the St. Louis Rams when the organization won their last Super Bowl in the 1999 season. The legendary wideout was a rookie in 1999 and went on to have a storied career in the NFL, but he knows just how much a Super Bowl win means in the eyes of fans and the media.
Ahead of Matthew Stafford’s first Super Bowl, Holt laid out how a victory in the Super Bowl could alter the veteran quarterback’s legacy.

Stafford entered this season as a quarterback that had gaudy numbers during his tenure with the Detroit Lions. Earlier this season, Stafford became the fastest quarterback in NFL history to reach 50,000 passing yards.
While the numbers have been impressive, Stafford failed to win a single playoff game with the Lions. When Stafford arrived in Los Angeles, some people criticized him for his lack of postseason success and labeled that as a reason why the Rams wouldn’t benefit from acquiring him.
Fast forward to now and Stafford now has three playoff wins under his belt, including a victory over Tom Brady in the divisional round. The ultimate goal is to win a Super Bowl, so Stafford knows that the journey is far from over for the Rams as they prepare to face the Cincinnati Bengals at SoFi Stadium.
Whether it’s fair or not, quarterbacks are typically judged by the number of wins and Super Bowl rings they have when their careers are over. There are exceptions like Dan Marino, who is considered by many to be one of the best quarterbacks in NFL history despite failing to win a Super Bowl.
At 33 years old, Stafford has put together quite the career in the NFL and Holt realizes that a Super Bowl could bolster Stafford’s already-impressive resume.
