Torrey DeVitto made a firm decision to not return to The Vampire Diaries after her divorce from co-star Paul Wesley. The actress, known for her role as Dr. Meredith Fell in seasons 3 and 4 of the popular supernatural series, opened up about the challenging period she faced post-split on a recent podcast episode.
DeVitto revealed that the public nature of her divorce from Wesley, who portrayed Stefan Salvatore on the show, took a toll on her. She expressed that the attention drawn to their relationship due to their involvement in a widely watched series influenced her choice to not continue working on The Vampire Diaries.
Despite appearing in a few episodes during her time on the show, DeVitto decided against returning after the separation. She emphasized that personal well-being and comfort were her priorities, stating that she did not feel compelled to stay in a work environment that was no longer conducive to her.
The actress also shared her struggles with the aftermath of the divorce, mentioning the unwarranted scrutiny she faced in her subsequent relationships. DeVitto described the experience as mortifying, as fans often compared her partners to Wesley's on-screen persona without truly knowing him as a person.
Wesley and DeVitto had tied the knot after meeting on the set of 'Killer Movie' in 2007 but parted ways after four years of marriage. Wesley went on to date Phoebe Tonkin, another co-star from The Vampire Diaries, before marrying Ines de Ramon, with whom he later separated in 2022. DeVitto, on the other hand, is currently engaged to Jared LaPine, with whom she is expecting her first child.
As their personal lives continue to evolve, both Wesley and DeVitto have moved forward in their respective relationships, finding new paths and opportunities for growth beyond their past connections.
