Toronto Raptors forward Jontay Porter is currently under investigation by the NBA for suspected betting irregularities that have arisen in recent months. The league is looking into multiple instances of prop bets involving Porter from games on Jan. 26 and March 20.
During the game on Jan. 26 against the LA Clippers, there was a notable increase in betting activity on the under for Porter's prop bets. Despite the prop bets being set at around 5.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.5 assists, Porter played only four minutes due to an eye injury, failing to score any points and missing the set benchmarks. This resulted in the under hitting on all of the props, making it a significant win for bettors.
A similar situation occurred on March 20 in a game against the Sacramento Kings, where Porter played just three minutes before leaving the game due to illness. Once again, he did not meet the set over/under thresholds for points and rebounds, leading to another profitable outcome for bettors.
Porter, who is on a two-way contract with the Raptors, missed a recent game for personal reasons and is currently listed as out for the team's upcoming game against the Brooklyn Nets. NBA regulations strictly prohibit players and league personnel from participating in any form of betting on league events, including prop bets. Violations of this policy can result in fines, suspensions, contract terminations, and other disciplinary actions.
The NBA closely monitors sports betting activities through dedicated team personnel and data scientists to identify any anomalies or integrity issues. Porter, who made his NBA debut in 2021, has played in 26 games this season, averaging 4.4 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game.
