A tornado watch has been issued by the Storm Prediction Center for more than 1.9 million people in coastal South Carolina and North Carolina until 5 p.m. ET. This watch encompasses areas such as Charleston and Myrtle Beach in South Carolina, as well as Wilmington in North Carolina. The SPC has cautioned that the greatest instability will be near the coast, which could lead to occasional supercells with a tornado threat.
Debby, a weather system, has already caused significant weather events in the region. At least two tornadoes were reported in portions of South Carolina on Monday night. The first tornado passed through Edisto Beach, located 50 miles southwest of Charleston, while the second tornado hit Seabrook Island, approximately 25 miles southwest of Charleston.
Since Sunday, there have been a total of at least 12 tornado reports in Florida and South Carolina. The impact of these tornadoes has been felt across the region, prompting authorities to issue warnings and advisories to residents in the affected areas.
