A CONSERVATIVE MP has admitted that her party is depending on young Scots not voting in order to keep Scotland within the UK.
While appearing on the BBC programme Politics Live, Heather Wheeler, the Tory MP for South Derbyshire, was asked how the Conservatives intended to “win over” young people in Scotland, with the majority of 18-35-year-olds supporting independence.
Presenter Jo Coburn spelled out the difficulty for the Conservatives in convincing younger Scots to vote No.
She said: “When it comes to young people, the vast majority of young people, 80% of 18 almost all the way up to 45-year-olds are pro-independent. How are you going to win those people over?”

Wheeler replied: “Well, very sadly sometimes young people don’t vote.”
Coburn said that young people should and appeared taken aback by the MP’s answer.
“And that’s your answer? Okay,” she said, pulling a face that reflected her bemusement.
The Conservative MP then went on to say that it was “fascinating” that the “society up there” allowed Nicola Sturgeon to “get away” with her record on education and drugs deaths.
No member of the SNP was present to offer a response.
