Tories fume as Greens call for intervention over Jordan Peterson show

TORIES have exploded with vitriol after the Greens urged Glasgow City Council to intervene over Jordan Peterson’s show at the OVO Hydro.

Patrick Harvie criticised the right-wing commentators show being permitted to take place: "He has peddled division and promoted extremists like Tommy Robinson and Elon Musk.

"Glasgow City Council have refused events before that are not in line with their values, so, at the very least, they should explain why they feel Jordan Peterson is the kind of person they are willing to host.”

The comments drew ire from the right of Scottish politics. Tory MSP Murdo Fraser responded on Twitter/X to the Green’s demand for explanation for not pulling the plug on Peterson’s show: “Because it would be ILLEGAL. Are these people really this stupid?? Oh, wait….”

Fraser added: “Patrick Harvie seems unable to grasp the notion that people he disagrees with should be allowed to express their opinions.

“You would think he’d have learnt from the last time he weighed in on a show at the SEC.

"That go at stifling free speech ended up costing the venue and the council more than £100,000 in legal costs and damages, and the sheriff made a point of tearing a strip off Mr Harvie.

“His damning conclusion was that nothing the Green co-leader had said was supported by the facts. Unfortunately, Mr Harvie still hasn’t learnt his lesson.”

Conservative MP and Shadow Secretary of State for Scotland, Andrew Bowie also criticised the Green’s view regarding the event : “Freedom of speech according to the Scottish Green Party = Freedom of speech is fine if only what you say is what we agree with.”

Socially conservative political commentator and anti-abortion activist Lois McLatchie Miller compared Peterson’s show to that of pop-star Sabrina Carpenter, who will also play Hydro this year. She wrote: “Jordan Peterson promotes responsibility & family over hedonism. Sabrina Carpenter promotes premarital sex and slut culture.”

“Guess which one the Scottish Greens want to cancel from the Hydro?”

Jordan Peterson’s show at the Hydro this Summer is set to go ahead, despite Scottish Green condemnation.
