Representing multiple heritages is a big part of modern culture in professional sport.
I played proudly for England, but I'm also of Nigerian descent.
So when representing England, I was actually representing Africa as well.
People do see that, and, hopefully, that made them proud. I know it did for me and my family.
Hopefully, that's how everyone will see it for Manu Tuilagi tomorrow, when the England centre goes up against his homeland of Samoa.
Being a representative of multiple cultures is quite common now in rugby — just look at South Africa and Tonga last weekend.
Both sets of players kneeled in a circle, embracing for a prayer on the pitch after the match.
You know you are representing something much bigger than just the badge on your shirt; that is a huge part of rugby. It is quite a privileged position to be in, to be able to have multiple heritages, different backgrounds, but then to have a job to make two sets of people equally proud. It lifts both up, and it is very cool.
Everyone knows Manu's story now, and while this will be his first Test match against Samoa, he knows exactly what the score is.
The Samoan players will go after one of their own playing for the other team, but that is the ultimate sign of respect.
He is English, he plays for England and he will play his very best for England regardless.
What he will do is also understand he is representing Samoa as well, as part of his heritage.
And in him being the best that he can be for England, he is also representing Samoa in that respect.
So, his brothers, his family and his countrymen back home, they will be immensely proud of what he is doing in an England shirt. Then it is just about performing.
Manu will go out there and deliver his normal, natural performance.
He will expect a few big hits to come his way, but that is actually part of the Samoan culture, and part of their respect.
The idea that who and what you are playing for is bigger than the individual can be extremely powerful.
There's a freeing element to understanding that, actually, it is not about individuals and even in isolation individual mistakes.
Show effort and heart, leave everything out there and people will love you for it.
England have the chance to be in that position now.
