A former University of Wisconsin campus chancellor who was dismissed after making pornographic films with his wife is now fighting to retain his tenured teaching position, according to a report.
After leading UW-La Crosse as chancellor for close to 17 years, Joe Gow is looking to convince a personnel committee of the University of Wisconsin Board of Regents on Friday to allow him to retain his tenure and return to teaching as a communications instructor, according to the Associated Press.
Since Gow's dismissal as chancellor in 2023, he has been on paid leave from his faculty role, the AP reported, adding that action was taken by the regents soon after university officials discovered that he and his wife had posted explicit videos on adult entertainment websites.
In July, the faculty committee at UW-La Crosse voted unanimously to terminate Gow's faculty position. Their reason is because he used his university status to increase interest in and profits from his adult videos.
The university's legal team intends to argue for revoking Gow's tenure at Friday's hearing. Their case rests on claims that his actions have damaged the institution's reputation and impeded its ability to fulfill its educational mission.
Following his termination as chancellor in 2023, UW placed Gow on paid leave from his teaching role. The regents took this action soon after university officials discovered the explicit videos featuring Gow and his wife on adult content platforms.
