Tory chairman Greg Hands has been accused of being behind the “lamest Conservative joke ever” after flogging Keir Starmer branded flip-flops online.
Mr Hands emailed party members this week, hawking the merchandise - which fun at claims the Labour leader has gone back on his policy pledges.
The bright red summer footwear features an image of Mr Starmer’s face, and sells for £16.99 - with proceeds stuffing the Tories’ election war chest.
That makes them significantly cheaper than the £95 designer sliders favoured by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
The PM was widely mocked after being snapped wearing costly flip-flops made by fashion brand Palm Angels in 2021.
Mr Sunak has himself been responsible for a raft of political flip-flops - most recently breaking his pledge to bring in a tougher law banning trophy hunting imports and cracking down on puppy smugglers and dog theft.
And he’s dropped a string of the campaign promises made in his Tory leadership campaign.
They include pledges on immigration, NHS waiting lists, scrapping EU laws, relaxing the ban on wind farms, charging patients £10 for missed GP appointments and not raising national insurance.
One recipient of the email told this newspaper: “I thought Liz Truss was the lamest political joke in Conservative political history. But, fair play to Tory HQ, they’ve gone one worse here.”
