Top three centers in the Big Ten for 2023

We had a really easy time picking guards, because of the abundance of talent at the position in the Big Ten, but pickings are a bit slimmer at offensive tackle and now we see center is a bit slim as well. It is also not a good sign that we have yet another offensive line position group that does not include an Ohio State Buckeye.

I hope someone for Ohio State steps up because it is not the best omen that Michigan has had a representative in every position group and Ohio State has only shown up within the guard list. Now let’s dive into the centers.

3
Gus Hartwig, Purdue

Why the Pick

Gus Hartwig is the leader of an experienced and underrated offensive line for the Boilermakers. Hartwig is one of the bigger gets recruiting-wise for Purdue in recent years and he has lived up to the hype.

2
Jake Renfro, Wisconsin

Mandatory Credit: Katie Stratman-USA TODAY Sports

Why the Pick

Jake Renfro is one of the more underrated transfers in the Big Ten as he comes in from Cincinnati after missing all of 2022, but Renfro is elite as evidenced by his All-AAC 2021.

1
Drake Nugent, Michigan

Mandatory Credit: Stan Szeto-USA TODAY Sports

Why the Pick

The Wolverines snagged possibly the best transfer in the conference because Nugent is an elite talent that was the missing piece for an elite offensive line. Nugent was an impressive stud at Stanford before transferring to Michigan.
