Top referee Bobby Madden has been appointed to the Profesional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) following his decision to resign from the Scottish FA and relocate to England.
The 43-year-old from East Kilbride will join their National Group of referees from the 2022/23 season, meaning he will officiate League One and League Two matches, with occasional stints as fourth official in Championship matches.
Madden officially announced his decision today, ending a period of nearly 20 years as a math official in Scotland.
He became a FIFA referee in 2010 and has taken charge of Scottish Cup and League Cup finals, and been appointed to more than 1000 matches in Scotland.
In a statement issued by the Scottish FA, Madden said: "I would like to thank the Scottish FA for their support over the years – from my first match as a young referee to various derby matches and international appointments.
“It’s been some journey in that time, from Scottish Cup finals to refereeing and training during a pandemic, but the time is right for me for a number of reasons to relocate and as a result I’m grateful for the opportunity with the FA.”
The statement continued: "The Scottish FA would like to thank Bobby for his commitment to refereeing and passion to drive recruitment, and wish him all the best in his future endeavours."
