Top prizes on offer as Wishaw pub set to host Cancer Research UK charity night

A Wishaw pub is hosting a fundraising evening for a cancer charity with a host of top prizes on offer.

The Cherry Tree in Netherton is hosting the event for Cancer Research UK tomorrow night (Friday), with a variety of star prizes set to be won.

These include a Scotland top signed by Arsenal star Kieran Tierney, a bottle of whisky worth almost £1000 and a Ferrari signed shirt.

Cherry Tree proprietor Helen Paterson said: “One of our regulars, Yvonne Jeffrey, brought in a sponsor sheet to raise money for Cancer Research and we had been thinking of doing a charity event anyway and it snowballed from there.

“We have had an amazing response already and the prizes we have got for the auction has been great.

“Kieran has been really generous in donating his Scotland top as well as an Arsenal print and a signed Scotland flag.

“We have also got a bottle of Dewar’s 150 year anniversary White Label whisky with a recommended retail price of £995 so we should hopefully raise a fantastic amount.”

On the night there will also be live music, raffles, a chance for in person bidding at the auction, a buffet, custom cocktails and more.

Other prizes include a classic car ride, a signed Motherwell FC and tickets to Fir Park plus a signed Celtic match ball.

Helen added: “We took over the tenancy of the pub back in January.

“We couldn’t really have picked a worst time because of Covid but hopefully we are past all of that now and nights like this make it worthwhile.

“The response from the community has been absolutely fantastic, and we’ve raised well over £1000 through donations, raffles and auctions already, with a few days still to go.”

Entry to the Cancer Research UK charity night at the Cherry Tree in Netherton is free and the fun starts at 7pm.

You can bid for items in the auction by logging onto the Cherry Tree’s Facebook page.
