Top Pembrokeshire restaurant finds new home after sudden closure last year

A Pembrokeshire restaurant that was included in last year's Good Food Guide is set to open its doors once again after closing for the winter in November 2022 as it search for a new home. And Welsh foodies are delighted.

Annwn had become one of Wales' top foodie spots before it closed last year and, once it reopens, will continue to serve up high quality meals made with seasonal, local and sustainable ingredients and foraged plants and fungi cooked by chef and owner Matt Powell. The fine dining restaurant, which we paid a visit to shortly before it temporarily closed its door - read more on that here, had been located within an old potting shed at a luxury glamping site in Lawrenny called The Little Retreat.

Now, they've found a new permanent home and have moved east to Narberth and have begun work on its new restaurant at the former site of the old HSBC bank.

Sharing updates online Matt and his partner Naomi, who work closely with local farmers to get fresh ingredients for their menus, posted a photo of the interior progress of the restaurant and wrote: "So as we reenter Annwn, let us start again with fervor and pride and reignite the fire in my soul...Annwn will reopen in late Spring of 2023.

"Our journey begins again. Although this time around with more determination, energy, passion and thought. The last few months haven’t been easy. Relocating the premises has been hard going. We had to go through hoops and red tape, but we are almost there now.

"We have found a stunning place to now focus, restart and refine. I also have to take this opportunity to thank all our friends and guests who have been there for us and for all those who came out of the unknown to offer support and kind words. I cannot tell you how much this has meant on this part of the journey.

"We look forward to welcoming our guests from the past joining us again and to all those about to join us for the first time."

And it seems Annwn's move is a welcome new addition to the town - which also just so happens to house one of the world's best pizza chefs at Top Joe's (read more on that here) - as local businesses and foodie fans alike flooded the restaurant's comments with words of excitement and congratulations.

One user, @thetodaytree, wrote: "Fantastic! Ardderchog! So happy for you, and can't wait to visit." alongside The Barn on the Waundwrgi estate, who added: "Looking forward to a visit and being able to recommend to our guests. Looks fantastic."

A third, @rebeccaodwyerart, also commented: "Woop Woop! Congratulations and best wishes for the future in your new place which looks great. We'll come and eat with you this Summer..."

Posting another series of pictures of their work thus far on the restaurant - specifically on the flooring - the pair added how they're hoping for an opening date of Friday, May 5.

Annwn, once it reopens, will be found at 1 Market Square in Narberth. For more information, see the website.
