Top Indian takeaway celebrates double victory at foodie awards bash

The owners of an Indian takeaway in Ayrshire have cooked up two more awards for their delicious food offering.

The Curry Leaf, in Ayr’s Wills Road, landed a double during Monday night’s Scottish Takeaway Awards in Glasgow.

They won two awards — Best Curry Takeaway for the Southwest Region and the Best Curry (Overall).

But it’s now a treble of industry awards for the Curry Leaf — because they also celebrated glory in the 2022 Scottish Curry Awards, where they won the Best Takeaway and Home Delivery of the Year prize, only last month.

These latest accolades are the latest in a long line of awards for the family-owned business after the Curry Leaf won the Good Food Awards in 2019, 2020 and was also voted top takeaway in the 2019 Scottish Curry Awards.

Proprietor Rajinder Kaur runs the business with husband Karamjeet and mum Kashmir overseeing the operation.

Rajinder, 33, beamed: “We have managed to scoop up another two awards — The Scottish Takeaway Awards. We won the best Curry Takeaway for the Southwest Region and Overall winner of all the regions. We literally have no words to explain how happy we are!”

Since opening in 2017, the Curry Leaf has grown in popularity.

The takeaway boasts some exquisite dishes. Currently topping the taste charts are their South Indian, butter masala and chasni ranges.

And the owners have expanded their offering to include some truly mouth watering Egyptian-style kebabs, chicken curry burritos and a wide range of sensational pizza fries, which are all taking the town by storm.

To win a Scottish Takeaway Award, entrants must reach several industry benchmarks such as producing a tasty takeaway, have a great food hygiene score, a high ranking against competitors and consistently positive customer feedback.

Rajinder said: “My mum Kashmir, my husband Karamjeet and I have worked so hard and, of course, our whole team to ensure our customers get the best food and service since we first opened our business. And this latest award is recognition of all our efforts. This really does mean the world to us.

“We’d like to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone that continues to support us from our hardworking staff to our wonderful customers.

“We love what we do and are thankful to be recognised. Let it remain a constant reminder that good work comes with unbelievable achievements.”

Around 150 representatives of the best takeaways in Scotland gathered on Monday at Marriott Hotel, Glasgow, to celebrate their achievements.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Takeaway Awards said: “Although in our second year, we are honoured by the fantastic response we have had from the public who was so keen to vote for their favourite takeaways.

“This industry has grown massively over the past years and we aimed to seek out, reward and thank those who have managed to make a real difference by serving fantastic food, using the best of ingredients.

“The winners are an outstanding example of excellence whose dedication to be the best has made them stand out among the rest.

“We would like to congratulate all finalists and winners for their amazing achievements.”
