Top Gun star 'messed up' while meeting 'disarming' Prince William and Kate Middleton

Top Gun star Miles Teller has admitted he breached protocol during a run in with Prince William and Kate Middleton.

The actor, who plays Lt. Bradley 'Rooster' Bradshaw in Top Gun: Maverick, met the Prince and Princess of Wales back in May at a screening for his latest film in London.

Miles said he and his co-stars were given a list of dos and don'ts ahead of being introduced to the royal couple.

"There's a lot of etiquette, deservedly so, and I kind of had a sheet to prep to make sure I didn't mess it up," he said during an appearance on Wednesday episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

But the 35-year-old revealed he "messed up" straight away.

48-year-old host Jimmy showed Miles a photograph of the encounter, with his co-star Jennifer Connelly looking "a little concerned" as Miles introduced himself to William and Kate and shook the Prince's hand.

"I think right off the bat I messed up. You’re not supposed to extend your hand right off the bat unless they do, but I felt the vibe," Miles explained.

He added: "To their credit, they were very disarming."

The Whiplash actor joked: "I think right there, I'm honestly lost in Prince William's eyes. I mean, blue as the bluest ocean."

Miles also described Kate as "beautiful and very cordial" and said she "holds herself so well".

He said he he thinks Prince William "is a lifelong fan now", adding: "I was just picking up what he was putting down."

Miles recently opened up on filming Top Gun: Maverick and said Tom Cruise, who was a producer on the film as well as the star, banned the cast from drinking alcohol while they were filming.

The 60-year-old also wanted the cast to stay in peak physical shape.

Speaking to The Mirror, Miles said: "There were days after a tough shoot I could have really used a couple of beers… but you just don’t want to be flying at those speeds hungover."

He went on to admit he made one exception for a wedding, adding: "The next day I had flight training in 100C heat. That was rough."
