Top Gear's future is set to be decided "imminently" following Freddie Flintoff's crash, it has been reported.
Filming for the hit BBC show was temporarily paused in reaction to the 45-year-old's crash – which saw the TV star airlifted to hospital.
Freddie is said to be "lucky to be alive" after the accident left him hospitalised and suffering with broken bones.
Flintoff was behind the wheel – and a crew member in the passenger seat – when former cricket star's open-topped car flipped over and slid along the track in the horror accident.
Now, BBC bosses are reportedly expecting the results of an internal health and safety investigation, which is expected to be finalised in the coming days.
A source has told The Sun: "The report is imminent. Only when it is finished and examined will a decision be made on whether Top Gear filming can restart.
"The show’s future depends on what the report says. It’s as simple as that."
Meanwhile, an insider also claimed production staff wanted to give Freddie time to recover from the crash as the accident was a "shock for everyone involved and very serious".
The show said they were fully investigating the incident as a spokesman for the programme said in December: "Our primary concern is and has been for the welfare of Freddie – as well as the Top Gear team.
"All health and safety procedures were followed on site and the incident is now being fully investigated, in line with standard policy and practice."
Freddie, who presents Top Gear alongside Paddy McGuinness and Chris Harris, took a break from TV following the frightening incident.
It's reported the full extent of Freddie's injuries 'will surprise many people' following the crash that left him hospitalised and suffering with broken bones thanks to the accident that occurred on the Top Gear test track.
His family are understood to have asked him to stay away from TV while he recovers.
Freddie has kept a low-profile since the incident, and has only been in a sighting last month – where he was pictured in the passenger seat of his wife's car.
And it was claimed Freddie was even considering quitting the show completely after the accident.
Piers Morgan previously told TalkSport of Freddie: "I'm told it was a pretty serious crash and that Freddie's going to be OK, but it might be a little bit more serious than first appreciated.
"I'm told he's going to be OK which is great news, but I'm also told it was a pretty nasty bang and that he's had surgery and is recovering now and we'll have to wait and see.
"I've been in contact with them privately, but I just want to wish him and his family, Rachel his wife, all the very best and I think we're all just keeping our fingers crossed that the big man comes through alright."
The TV star's injuries are said to be "more severe" because the accident took place in a car which had no roof.
