We have been diving into some of the more highly touted recruits in Ohio State history. We recently discussed the quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers, tight ends, offensive tackles and guards, but we wanted to look into the history of recruiting centers.
There are some very interesting names on this top five recruiting list and even though 247Sports only goes back to 2000, there are some memorable names. It is always fun to reflect on how some of these guys performed and whether or not they lived up to expectations. Offensive line recruits are always interesting because these are guys that are often switching positions, but let’s dive in.

Jack Mewhort, Class of 2009

Jack Mewhort ended his Ohio State career as one of the best offensive linemen in history. He was named All-Big Ten twice and All-American once before being drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in the second round of the 2014 NFL draft. Mewhort actually didn’t earn those honors at center; he was moved to offensive tackle.

Luke Wypler, Class of 2020

Luke Wypler just finished his last season as a Buckeye. He declared for the NFL draft after completing his redshirt sophomore season. He ended the season as All-Big Ten from the center position.
Luke Wypler is a really underrated center prospect in this draft class. He may never be a star but he is a technically sound player that plays with great leverage.

Matthew Jones, Class of 2018

Matthew Jones is still in Columbus, Ohio, and after playing last season at guard, will be expected to move to center for the 2023 season. Jones will be relied on heavily in his sixth season.

Harry Miller, Class of 2019

Harry Miller made his biggest impact off-the-field, sharing his mental health story and providing inspiration to others. Miller’s contributions after retiring from football cannot be measured.

Michael Brewster, Class of 2008

Michael Brewster is the highest-rated center recruit in Ohio State history and the former five-star was a huge get from the state of Florida. Brewster had a decorated Ohio State career. He was a freshman All-American, named All-Big Ten twice, and an All-American once. He actually went undrafted in 2012.
