Top College Basketball Programs Utilizing Transfer Portal Effectively

Following their second consecutive national championship win, UConn coach Dan Hurley recently made waves in the college basketball world by utilizing the transfer portal to bolster his team's roster. With the portal window closing, the Huskies have strategically added key players in hopes of securing a historic third straight NCAA title.

Among the notable additions are former Michigan center Tarris Reed and former Saint Mary's star guard Aidan Mahaney. Additionally, UConn secured top recruit Liam McNeeley, who opted out of his commitment to Indiana to join the Huskies.

Several other top programs have also been active in the transfer portal market this season:

  • Kentucky: Under new head coach Mark Pope, the Wildcats have made significant roster changes, including the addition of standout players like Lamont Butler, Otega Oweh, and Andrew Carr.
  • Arkansas: The Razorbacks have landed top transfers such as Johnell Davis, Jonas Aidoo, and Zvonimir Ivisic to strengthen their lineup.
  • Duke: Despite losing several players to transfers, Duke has brought in experienced talents like Maliq Brown and Mason Gillis to complement their highly touted recruiting class.
  • Michigan: The Wolverines have revamped their roster with six transfers, including Vladislav Goldin, Danny Wolf, Sam Walters, and Roddy Gayle Jr.
  • Indiana: Head coach Mike Woodson has secured key transfers like Oumar Ballo, Kanaan Carlyle, Myles Rice, and Luke Goode to enhance the Hoosiers' lineup.
  • Kansas: The Jayhawks have made significant portal additions, including AJ Storr, Riley Kugel, and Zeke Mayo, as they aim for continued success.
