A multi-award winning curry house have added another accolade to their belt.
Prestwick’s Taj Bar & Kitchen were crowned the best restaurant in South Scotland at the annual Spice Awards on Monday.
The Taj were also finalists for curry of the year for their infamous Rajasthani curry.
The family-owned business, that has been serving the town for over 40 years, beat off stiff competition from seven other restaurants in the south category to claim the honour.
Boss Perry Uppal praised the hardworking team of 28 for scooping the top award, which was based on customer votes.
Perry said: “The awards are well sought-after so it was good to achieve the best restaurant for our category- and as a result of which, we basically finished in the top four in Scotland.
“It’s credit to the chefs and our team at the front because they’re at the forefront of it all, so massive congratulations to them in getting us this achievement.
“I’ve always said to the team that if we can put on good food, good service and in a good environment, then there’s not really much else that we can do that could go wrong.
“If we tick those three boxes, and those are the three main boxes, then we’ll do okay.
“It’s doing things that we do every day and making sure that our food is on point, recipes are on point, and service that we give is the best that we can possibly give, and not try and cut back on that.
“It’s really making sure that our staff are trained and know the importance of service and how much of a difference that makes to the customer experience.
“It’s just having good habits to be honest.”
The Taj also posted on their Facebook: “A massive, massive thank you to all our customers who voted for us and who support us everyday. We are always indebted to your loyalty.
“Another massive thank you for every single person we have worked within our team at Taj.
“Without each and every single one of you pulling in the same direction, none of this is possible.”
