Top chef Adam Reid rescued a family's NYE after food box got lost - by sending his own

A top Manchester chef has rescued a family’s New Year’s Eve after his bespoke food box got lost in the post - by personally sending them another one. Bromwyn Roberts, from Kirkburton in Huddersfield, ordered the specially prepared box for a treat for the occasion back in October.

But, after it got lost, she was left at a loose end - before a surprise knock at the door by one of the team who had driven over from Manchester left her overjoyed.

Personally handing the box worth £150 over, Bromwyn was pleasantly surprised with the four course meal ready to share for her date night.

Renowned chef Adam Reid is currently working as head chef at The French in the Midland hotel. In 2014, Adam won Manchester Food Festivals ‘Chef of the Year’ and was shortlisted in 2019 at the Hotel Cateys for ‘Restaurant Chef of The Year’.

Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, Bromwyn, 65, said: “We ordered a New Year’s Eve box from Adam Reid in October. We were waiting in anticipation for it not to come yesterday. Their team got in touch with me to try and deliver it but then we were told it had got lost and there were no more boxes.

“Then this morning, he sent one of his team to deliver us a family box in their car, so they drove all the way from Manchester to where we are in Huddersfield, because our box had gone missing.

“We have nothing else in and had ordered this especially for New Years Eve, so we would have had nothing to eat at all. He is a fantastic chef.”

She said she had received an email earlier in the morning from Adam apologising for the lost box.

“It’s a four course meal all prepared, and comes with instructions on how to cook it - it’s proper Yorkshire portions too. I’m sure we will enjoy it,” she said.

The New Year’s Eve box includes Pollen bakery “French” malt bread with beef butter; whole baked Tunworth cheese with onion jam and rye crackers; Treacle cured beef fillet with beetroot cooked in dripping, Hen of the Woods mushroom and slow cooked cheek in black pepper gravy; hot Guanaja chocolate gooey cake with kumquat and orange jam salad, toasted pistachios and clotted cream; and a sweet treat.
