Cardiff's highest-rated hotel on TripAdvisor will remain closed until further notice after being forced to shut due to a burst water pipe. The Coal Exchange Hotel in Cardiff's Mount Stuart Square had to close on Saturday February 18 with all guests moved to another venue.
Management had hoped the hotel would reopen in time for the Wales v England rugby match on Saturday February 25 but have said this won't be possible after "far greater damage" than expected was discovered. Guests will now be contacted and offered somewhere else to stay in Cardiff. It is not known when the hotel will be able to reopen and its restaurant will also remain closed until further notice.
A spokesperson for the Coal Exchange said: "During the evening of Saturday February 18, The Coal Exchange Cardiff had to close due to a burst water pipe. The team acted swiftly and all guests in house were moved to another venue within the city.

"After investigation, the water system and the hotel sustained far greater damage than first thought. The hotel and Culley’s Kitchen & Bar will remain closed for the work to be carried out.
"We are aiming to reopen the hotel as soon as possible. All guests that are affected by the closure over the weekend will be contacted by our team and offered different accommodation within the city."
After the prolonged closure was announced, well-wishers on Facebook have offered their services to help repair the Butetown building, which has a long history having been used as a shipping exchange and a music venue before being repurposed as a hotel. Jaylo Miles said: "Could end up with a workforce of volunteers that can come and help get you back open. For some it's more than a hotel!"
And Vikki Parry-Bailey added: "If you need any help decorating, etc, I'm happy to help, love this hotel so much. My grampy had an office here and my mum worked here too."
