A top aide to New York Mayor Eric Adams, Ingrid Lewis-Martin, has resigned from her position less than three months after investigators from the Manhattan district attorney’s office seized her phones and searched her house as part of ongoing probes involving City Hall.

Mayor Adams' office stated that Lewis-Martin's resignation on Sunday was a planned retirement. Her attorney, Arthur Aidala, is scheduled to hold a news conference on Monday to address the situation.

Mayor Adams expressed his sentiments about Lewis-Martin, calling her a friend, confidant, and trusted advisor, and mentioned that her departure was anticipated but still difficult to accept.

Lewis-Martin's resignation coincides with Mayor Adams facing federal corruption charges related to alleged acceptance of luxury travel perks and illegal campaign contributions. Adams has maintained his innocence and pleaded not guilty to the charges.

In late September, Lewis-Martin's phones were confiscated, and her residence was searched by Manhattan prosecutors, who met her at a New York airport upon her return from Japan. Following the search, Lewis-Martin appeared on her attorney's radio show to address the investigation and expressed confidence that no illegal activities had taken place.

Having been a long-serving and trusted aide to Mayor Adams throughout his political career, Lewis-Martin has decided to retire and focus on her family. She emphasized her dedication to New York City and pledged to continue advocating for the city as a private citizen.

With a background in community activism and political campaigns, Lewis-Martin expressed gratitude for her time at City Hall and affirmed her commitment to supporting the city in her future endeavors.
