Top 20 vintage names set to make a comeback - and some are fit for a royal

When it comes to picking a baby name, there's so much choice out there that it can be difficult to narrow down your selection.

Over the years, different monikers have risen and fallen in popularity as public opinion on certain names have shifted, but most of us would agree that you can't go wrong with a classic and traditional title.

And while the most popular baby names of 2021 included the likes of Olivia, Amelia, Noah, and Muhammad, there have also been a whole host of vintage monikers that are rising through the ranks once again, the Liverpool Echo reports.

Many believe that the modern-day parent prefers an unusual name for their little one rather than a "retro" name that's been in circulation for centuries, but according to data from Lottie.org there are clear signs of some names coming back into favour with millions of parents - and some even have royal influence.

Lottie.org teamed up with Forebears.io to compile a list of the 20 baby names that have received a boost in popularity recently, including the top 5 male and female monikers that new parents are choosing.

According to their data, the girls' name Patricia came in at the very top of the list, with over 5.6 million people having the name worldwide - making it 59th in the world name rankings currently, but top in terms of vintage titles.

In second place is Anita with 5.47 million people, while the top five is rounded out by Samuel, Rita, and Martha.

Girls' names in the rest of the top 20 included Barbara, Esther, Diana, Gloria, Ruth, Irene, Julia, and Margaret.

While for boys, the most popular vintage names are George, Francis, Frank, Oscar, Edward, Walter, and Albert.

And while parents continue to embrace the traditional, it's no surprise that several names on the list of vintage monikers have a royal influence.

The newest addition to the royal family whose name made the cut is Prince George, the eight-year-old son of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, but there's also a touch of royal charm in the names Diana, Margaret, Edward, and Albert.

The top vintage male name was Samuel, which ranked 69th in the world, and the most popular female name was Patricia, ranking 59th.

To collect the data, Lottie.org used online sources Nameberry, Mother & Baby, Fatherly and Parade to create the list.

To work out numbers, Lottie.org used Forebears.io to discover the global popularity, amount of people bearing the name and countries where the name is most chosen.
