Top 20 things King Charles III loves including pizza, boiled eggs and plums

King Charles III was officially proclaimed Britain's new monarch today in a colourful ceremony laden with pageantry and dating back centuries.

Charles, who became King following the death of his mother Queen Elizabeth III, pledged to follow the late monarch's example as his reign began.

His coronation will take place at a later date - and the timing for that is not yet clear.

There was a 16-month gap between Elizabeth becoming queen and her coronation in 1953.

We know a lot about the King, but what's his favourite song, what does he do in his free time, and what does he like to eat? Here are his 20 favourite things.

Football team

Burnley FC

The King began supporting the Clarets a decade ago after doing charity work in the Lancashire town. He was given a VIP season ticket for the now-relegated former premier league team. In 2012 he revealed he wanted “to regenerate and raise aspirations and self-esteem in that part of the world”.

While on a visit to the Ionian isle for an official engagement, Charles once explained: “Greece is in my blood and I have long had a fascination for her ancient culture and history.”

Song

The 1935 jazz standard Lulu’s Back in Town, sung by Dick Powell, reminds the King of his grandmother, he once revealed.

Board game

The Good Life

In a letter from Clarence House, an aide congratulated the game’s creator on the “wonderful” game. It read: “It is without doubt a valuable contribution to educating people about the overwhelming sustainability crisis we face – whilst at the same time being great fun to play.” The winner of the game is the first to fill their garden and become self-sufficient.

Snack

Boiled egg

The monarch is said to eat a hard boiled egg every single day without fail and he likes them to be cooked for exactly seven minutes.

Cake

Traditional fruit cake

For his 70th birthday in 2018, Charles put in a request for his favourite fruit cake supplied by luxury baker Fiona Cairns.

A spokesman said: “Fiona and her team got to work designing and decorating the two-tier cake with delicate sugarcraft shapes, including rare breed animals, hens, a little basket with eggs, and things that reflect the Prince’s country pursuits.”

Vehicle

Aston Martin DB6 Volante

The King was given his beloved Aston Martin by the Queen for his 21st birthday in 1969. It has been converted to run on biofuel.

Charles considers this region of central Romania his second home because of its beauty, nature and mystery. The royal family are said to be distantly related to 15th century Romanian warlord Vlad the Impaler.

The King relies on wide cuts and often wears a cross-buttoned jacket – the same standard as Juan Carlos I, the former king of Spain.

Hobby

Painting/Watercolours

The King is a keen watercolourist and paints whenever he is not working.

Some of his paintings have been sold, with proceedings going to The Prince of Wales’s Charitable Foundation.

Chef Erminio Di Meo made Charles a pizza in November 2019 during a trip to Scotland. He said at the time: “I wanted to give him the pizza as he is such a big part of this country. He was curious, he smiled and I said, ‘It’s a Margherita’. I believe the Prince said, ‘It’s my favourite’.”

Drink

Laphroaig whisky

His tipple of choice is a glass of whisky – specifically Laphroaig, from the stormy island of Islay off the west coast of Scotland.

Fruit

Plums

Charles enjoys food picked from the garden at his Highgrove estate the most, and favours plums above all others, according to former royal chef Darren McGrady – who once served as personal chef to the Queen herself.
