Under the tutelage of Nuno Espirito Santo, Nottingham have not only cracked the top four in the Premier League rankings but also established themselves as genuine title contenders. More impressively, they have done it without dropping hundreds of millions on transfers.
Nottingham Forest, who are on a seven-game winning run across competitions, have a solid core, led by in-form centre-forward Chris Wood. The 33-year-old excels in Forest’s counter-attacking system, regularly making runs inside the area, jostling for the ball, and applying clinical finishes. Wood is, in fact, one of the leading goalscorers in Europe over the age of 32, with only two players scoring more league goals than him in the 2024-25 season.

#10 Jamie Vardy (Leicester City): 6 Goals
At 38, Leicester City icon Jamie Vardy is the oldest player on this list of veterans. However, even in the twilight of his career, Vardy remains a force to be reckoned with, having scored six goals in 18 Premier League appearances this season. The 2015-16 Premier League champion has also provided three assists in the English top flight.
Vardy’s last Premier League goal came against Brighton & Hove Albion on 8th December. His goal and assist proved decisive as the Foxes held the Seagulls to a 2-2 draw.
Vardy also has one goal to his name in the FA Cup.
#9 Iago Aspas (Celta Vigo): 6 Goals
Celta Vigo legend Iago Aspas has secured the ninth position, scoring six goals for the club in 16 La Liga matches this season. He has also provided three assists in the league.
Aspas, 37, scored his last La Liga goal in the clash against Mallorca in the first week of December. His fine goal propelled Celta to a 2-0 victory over Mallorca.
Aspas is currently recovering from a lower leg fracture. He will not return to action before the second week of February.
#8 Andrej Kramaric (Hoffenheim): 6 Goals
Scoring six goals in 15 Bundesliga appearances, Hoffenheim striker Andrej Kramaric has claimed the eighth position in the rankings. The Croatian is currently the most prolific player over the age of 32 in the Bundesliga. Kramaric has also provided an assist in the German top flight.
Kramaric’s last Bundesliga goal came in the 2-1 defeat to Borussia Monchengladbach on 21st December.
Across competitions, the 33-year-old has played 23 games, recording six goals and two assists.
#7 Danny Welbeck (Brighton & Hove Albion): 6 Goals
Brighton & Hove Albion centre-forward Danny Welbeck has scored six goals in 14 appearances in the Premier League this season. The former Manchester United frontman has also claimed two assists in the English top flight.
Welbeck, 34, has been on a dry run lately, failing to score in his last seven games in all competitions. Welbeck’s last goal in the Premier League came against Wolverhampton Wanderers in October. His goal helped the Seagulls salvage a 2-2 draw.
Welbeck has also played three games in domestic cup competitions — FA Cup and EFL Cup — but failed to score.
#6 Antoine Griezmann (Atletico Madrid): 7 Goals
Atletico Madrid are leading the La Liga race this season, and Antoine Griezmann has unsurprisingly played his part. The 33-year-old has not only scored seven goals but has also chipped in with four assists in 20 La Liga appearances.
The 2018 FIFA World Cup winner was last on the scoresheet against Sevilla on 8th December. He scored a decisive brace as Atletico nicked a 4-3 win against the Andalusian outfit.
Griezmann has played 27 games for Los Rojiblancos in all competitions this season, scoring 12 goals and providing six assists.
#5 Raul Jimenez (Fulham): 8 Goals
In fifth place, we have Fulham centre-forward Raul Jimenez, with him scoring eight goals in 20 Premier League outings in the 2024-25 season. The 33-year-old has also demonstrated his creative side by providing two assists.
The Mexico international has been on a roll lately, with him scoring four goals in his last three matches across competitions. In his last Premier League game, Jimenez scored a brace as Fulham played out a 2-2 draw with Ipswich Town.
Jimenez has competed in 23 matches across competitions, registering 10 goals and two assists.
#4 Ante Budimir (CA Osasuna): 10 Goals
CA Osasuna striker Ante Budimir has been in fine form this season, finding the back of the net 10 times in 19 games in La Liga. The Croatia international has also provided an assist.
Budimir’s last La Liga strike came against Deportivo Alaves on 8th December. His goal helped Osasuna salvage a 2-2 draw against Alaves.
The 33-year-old has also scored one goal in two Copa del Rey appearances.
#3 Chris Wood (Nottingham Forest): 12 Goals
Nottingham Forest frontman Chris Wood is third on the list, having found the back of the net 12 times in 20 Premier League matches since the start of the 2024-25 season. Wood has also chipped in with an assist. The 33-year-old Nottingham Forest star is in sixth place in the Premier League Golden Boot race.
Wood’s last strike came in Nottingham’s 3-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers on 7th January.
Wood, who joined Nottingham from Newcastle United in the summer of 2023, had a 16-minute cameo in the 2-0 FA Cup 3rd Round win over Luton Town on 11th January, but he could not find the back of the net.
#2 Robert Lewandowski (Barcelona): 16 Goals
Polish goalmachine Robert Lewandowski has been firing on all cylinders under Hansi Flick this season, scoring 16 times for Barcelona in 18 La Liga games. The 36-year-old, who also has claimed a couple of assists in the league, is currently leading the La Liga Pichichi Race (top scorer award).
Lewandowski’s last La Liga goal came in the 2-2 draw with Real Betis in the first week of December.
Lewandowski, who scored as Barcelona beat Real Madrid 5-2 in the Supercopa de Espana final, has featured in 27 games this season in all competitions, scoring 26 goals.
#1 Mohamed Salah (Liverpool): 18 Goals
Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah has claimed the top spot in style, having scored 18 Premier League goals in 19 appearances since the start of the 2024-25 season. The 32-year-old right-winger has also claimed 13 assists, emerging as the leading goalscorer and assist provider in the English top flight.
Salah’s latest Premier League strike came in the 2-2 draw with Manchester United on 5th January.
Salah, who will see his Liverpool contract expire on 30th June 2025, has played 28 matches for the club across competitions, finding the back of the net 21 times and providing 17 assists.
