Tony Watt on Dundee United transfer brink as Motherwell exit fast-tracked ahead of league restart

Dundee United are trying to clinch a six-figure deal for Tony Watt before the Premiership restart.

The Tannadice side has been locked in talks with Motherwell over the weekend and are pushing to get the move sealed ahead of their home clash with St Mirren on Tuesday night.

A deal still has to be finalised but it is believed that terms could be sealed over the next 24 hours.

United had previously agreed a pre-contract to sign the Premiership ’s top scorer Watt from the summer.

Sporting director Tony Asghar is now trying to bring that deal forward.

Motherwell boss Graham Alexander had previously said the Watt is likely to move although he would have no qualms about playing him if he was to remain at Fir Park for the season.

Tam Courts ’ side were one of the lowest scorers in the Premiership in the first half of the season but they will also be boosted on their restart by the return to fitness of fit-again Marc McNulty.
