Tony Watt handed Dundee United transfer exit option as Salford City ramp up striker interest

Salford City have upped the ante in their push for Tony Watt. The ambitious English League Two side are trying to see if they can strike a deal to land the Dundee United striker.

The much-travelled forward returned to the United first-team on Monday and fired them to victory with the winner at St Johnstone. Salford now want to see if they can agree a deal to land the frontman. If United were to give the green light then there is likely to be more interest with Bradford City also watching the situation closely.

Watt moved to United last January after they agreed a deal to sign him from Motherwell. The 29-year-old has failed to hit the heights he hit at Fir Park, where he was the Premiership’s top scorer when he opted to leave the Steelmen. Salford boss Neil Wood is looking for more firepower to fire his side to promotion and believe Watt can be the missing link.

The former Celtic striker Watt has found first-team football hard to come by since head coach Liam Fox has taken charge. Fox is looking to strengthen his own squad and could lose another striker with Premiership pair Southampton and Newcastle United watching teenager Rory MacLeod.

Australian international Aziz Behich has also been linked with a move to Turkish side Galatasaray. However, the Tannadice chiefs have dismissed those stories.
