Following the immense success of Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1+2, Vicarious Visions was planning on giving Pro Staker 3 and 4 the remaster treatment as well, but Activision pulled the plug.
That’s according to none other than Tony Hawk himself. During a Twitch live stream with former Neversoft designer Andy Gentile, Hawk stated that Pro Skater 3+4 was real until Vicarious Visions merged with Activision Blizzard.
“That was the plan; even up until the release day of [Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2], we were going 3+4,” Hawk said. “And then Vicarious [Visions] got kind of absorbed, and then they were looking for other developers, and then it was over.”
Vicarious Visions, the studio behind Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1+2, became part of Blizzard and made Diablo 2: Resurrected.

“The truth of it is, they were trying to find someone to do 3+4, but they just didn’t really trust anyone the way they did Vicarious [Visions],” Hawk continues. “So they took pitches from other studios, like ‘what would you do with a [Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater] title?’ and they didn’t like what they heard, and then that was it.”
A crying shame, really. Many consider Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 the best entry in the series. It had playable Darth Maul, for goodness sake!
