SIX the Musical is coming to Newcastle in 2025 to play a limited three-week season at the Civic Theatre.

The Australian production of the Tony Award-winning musical is currently playing at Melbourne's Comedy Theatre, before making its way to Sydney, Brisbane and Auckland and then to Newcastle from April 10.

SIX tells the story of the six wives of King Henry VIII who step out of the shadow of their infamous husband and reclaim their own narratives. Written by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss, this modern pop-inspired musical brings these historical figures to life, portraying them as fierce and influential pop stars in their own right.

Audiences are taken on a journey through the lives of Catherine of Aragon (played by Kimberley Hodgson), Anne Boleyn (Deirdre Khoo), Jane Seymour (Loren Hunter), Anna of Cleves (Zelia Rose Kitoko), Katherine Howard (Chelsea Dawson) and Catherine Parr (Giorgia Kennedy), each telling their own story and reclaiming their own narrative.

SIX has won 35 major international awards, including two Tony Awards for Best Original Score and Best Costume Design, and a Grammy nomination for Best Musical Theatre Album.

Each year SIX is seen by more than 3.5 million people worldwide.

Producer Louise Withers is looking forward to bringing the musical to Newcastle.

"SIX is truly a global phenomenon and in Australia has enjoyed rapturous acclaim by both critics and audiences alike," she said.

"We are beyond thrilled that SIX will be coming to Newcastle and we look forward to making more fans and breaking more records when we arrive there in 2025."

It's been a big year for the Civic Theatre, having hosted the likes of The Rocky Horror Show, RENT, Come From Away, Billy Elliot the Musical and, next month, Mary Poppins.

Lord Mayor Nuatali Nelmes said SIX would boost the Civic Theatre's growing national reputation, providing a cultural, economic and tourism boost to the city.

"Enjoyed by more than 3.5 million people worldwide each year, this spectacular production is a major coup secured by City of Newcastle," Cr Nelmes said.

"There's no doubt SIX the Musical will be the hottest ticket in town when it hits the stage in Newcastle next year.

"Major events are a clear economic driver for our city. By attracting such high calibre shows, the Civic Theatre provides a significant drawcard that delivers considerable benefits for Newcastle's visitor economy."

Tickets to SIX the Musical are on sale on September 26. You can join the wait list online at sixthemusical.com.au.
