Gatland: Wales jersey no longer enough
Warren Gatland says Welsh rugby must improve if it wants to keep its best players, admitting the pull of the Wales jersey is no longer enough.
The Wales coach was speaking after being forced to omit Joe Hawkins from his World Cup training squad. The centre is moving to Exeter Chiefs this summer and is well short of the 25 caps required to continue his international career while playing outside of Wales.
Gatland says he respects Hawkins' decision, and suggested the player felt "undervalued by the contract offer he received from the Ospreys". You can read the full story here.

Asked if the situation is proof the famous red jersey is no longer a big enough carrot in the current financial climate, Gatland said: "Yeah absolutely, I've made that point and we're not a reflection of where Welsh rugby has been at for a number of years.
"We've got to hopefully put things right and there is an opportunity now. The regions have got to deal with the Union and put plans in place in terms of moving forward.
"There are a number of issues in terms of age group stuff, that development and working the academies is important.
"These issues have been here before and we were probably blocking up the dam in terms of them not coming to the fore because of success we had.
"The onus is on all of us, as a national team and regions to be more successful, so we retain our players and they want to be part of teams here."
Scarlets coach leaves
Former Wasps head coach Lee Blackett is leaving the Scarlets and will join Bath this summer as assistant to Johann van Graan.
Blackett was made redundant in October after Wasps went into administration and took on a role as backs and skills coach in Llanelli.
The 40-year-old, who will link up with Bath in pre-season, said: "To have the opportunity to work with Johann, the rest of the coaching team and a talented playing group, as well as return to the Premiership, is very exciting for me.
"Bath is a club with rich history, fantastic support and has the infrastructure in place to be successful."
Van Graan added of Blackett: "He has head coach experience and a fantastic rugby IQ. During his career he has improved the abilities of world-class players and we are excited for him to help develop our squad and game in year two of our journey."
Blackett is set to be replaced at the Scarlets by former Ireland centre Jared Payne, who is currently at Clermont.
WalesOnline revealed last week South Africa World Cup-winning former lock Albert van den Berg is also set to join the Welsh team as forwards coach.
Ireland in talks over women's coach's future
The Irish Rugby Football Union insists discussions are ongoing with international women's coach Greg McWilliams over his future.
Ireland finished bottom of the Women's Six Nations table, losing all their matches, and there have been reports that McWilliams is set to depart his role.
But a statement on the Irish Rugby Twitter account read: "The IRFU can confirm that it is in discussion with Greg McWilliams and until these discussions are concluded no further comment will be made."
McWilliams was assistant to Adam Griggs before taking over as head coach last January.
A miserable Six Nations campaign saw Ireland manage just three tries in five games, with their final match a 36-10 defeat by Scotland.
Finishing bottom of the table means they will be in the third tier of the new WXV global competition.
Diamond stays at Edinburgh
Steve Diamond is set to oversee the start of Edinburgh's pre-season campaign as they take their time to select a new head coach.
The 54-year-old Englishman was recruited in March as a consultant to assist Mike Blair through the closing months of his reign after he revealed he would be stepping down at the end of the season.
However, managing director Douglas Struth revealed on Tuesday that Diamond will remain at the Dam Health Stadium into the new campaign to allow the United Rugby Championship outfit the "necessary time" to make a permanent appointment.
"The quality of interest in the head coach role has been excellent," Struth said in an end-of-season update on Edinburgh's website. "While we would hope to conclude this process very soon, it is important for the future of the club to get this right, and not to rush.
"For that reason, Steve Diamond has agreed to oversee the start of our pre-season programme until at least August.
"This allows us to take the necessary time to appoint a permanent head coach, safe in the certainty and security that a coach of Steve's quality and experience is leading from the front meantime."
