Tonight Josephine Cardiff: Opening date announced for cocktail bar at former Charleston's steakhouse

An opening date has been announced for a new cocktail bar coming to Cardiff city centre. Tonight Josephine it’s set to open on the former site of Charleston’s Steakhouse on Caroline Street.

Originally expected to open this month, the bubble gum pink cocktail bar with sassy Instagrammable interiors has now confirmed it will open to the public on Friday April 8. Tonight Josephine currently has three bars in London and one in Birmingham and is known for its lavish cocktail menu and extravagant bottomless brunches.

Describing itself as a 'sassy' cocktail bar and named after Empress Joséphine Bonaparte, the first wife of Napolean, Tonight Josephine hosts themed brunches in a glittery, neon-filled bar, which serves a large selection of cocktails, alongside wine, beer and non-alcoholic drinks.

Tonight Josephine already has three branches in London and one in Birmingham (Tonight Josephine)

Signature cocktails include the ‘No Time for Napoleon’ with Lillet Blanc, lychee liqueur, peach nectar, cranberry and citrus juice and the ‘Spill the Tea’ with gin, violette liqueur, butterfly pea tea, citrus and lemonade.

At Tonight Josephine’s other bars, an eclectic food offering includes the likes of katsu curry chicken strips, cauliflower hot wings, red lentil chilli nachos and bbq pulled pork buns.

Owned by the Adventure Bar Group, the company behind venues such as Adventure Bar, Blame Gloria, Bar Elba and The Escapologist, the Cardiff branch of Tonight Josephine will have a capacity of around 290 people and will create 30 new jobs in the city centre.

We can’t wait to open our doors to the people of Cardiff in true ‘Tonight Josephine’ style.”

Tonight Josephine takes over the former site of Charleston’s steakhouse on Caroline Street. One of Cardiff’s most iconic restaurants, Charleston’s served up late-night steak dinners for more than 30 years and was one of the city's highest-profile hospitality closures of 2021 .

Tonight Josephine isn’t the only new bar to arrive in Cardiff in 2022 . Par 59, a golf bar that’s backed by Gareth Bale, opened earlier in March whilst Scandinavian beer hall Heidi's Bier Bar opened on Mill Lane earlier this year.
