Toni Collette hints at ‘hurt’ following split from husband Dave Galafassi in new Instagram post

Toni Collette has alluded to her heartbreak following her split from husband Dave Galafassi in a new social media post.

The Muriel’s Wedding star revealed that the couple had split after 20 years of marriage in December after Galafassi was pictured with another woman.

Now a month on, Collette took to Instagram on Wednesday to share a cryptic post featuring a poem, titled Until the Stars Collapse, by the late Tony Ingram that hinted at her recent heartbreak.

The poem read: “you owe it to yourself to quit being the apology. to hold your hand and sing your favorite song. to love another and see how far that will go. to love yourself and forget where you were headed in the first place.

“love is a funny story. it wakes up and builds a plot. it wakes up and shapes you into the kind of woman your mother studies. i am not perfect in it. i am not even remotely articulate, but it is big, this love. it is airborne and triumphant. i am no easy show. i hurt like the climb of my lineage.

“i hurt on purpose. i hurt to not be hurt. no, none of this is an excuse. just a blueprint. a map. come find me when the day is bronze and the sorrow is full. i am building my poem in this here heart. all of it is a working title” [sic].

In December, the 50-year-old confirmed the news of their split on Instagram after MailOnline obtained photos of drummer Galafassi, 44, kissing chiropractor Shannon Egan, 41, on a Sydney beach.

Sharing a joint statement on her social media account, the pair wrote: “After a substantial period of separation, it is with grace and gratitude that we announce we are divorcing.

“We’re united in our decision and part with continuing respect and care for each other.

“Our kids are of paramount importance to us and we will continue to thrive as a family, albeit a different shape.

“We’re thankful for the space and love you grant us as we evolve and move through this transition peacefully. Big thanks.”

Collette and Galafassi, who share two children, daughter Sage, 14, and son Arlo, 11, have divided their time between Australia and the United States in recent years.

The pair first met in 2002 at the launch of Galafassi’s band Gelbison’s debut album Metal Detector in Sydney and days later they met again at a house party.

Collette recalled the encounter in a 2018 interview with The Sydney Morning Herald and admitted she had planned to stay for 10 minutes but ended up staying 12 hours.

She told the outlet: “He was the first person I saw when I walked in the door.

“He kissed me on the cheek and I just kind of melted. I planned to stay for ten minutes… I was there for 12 hours. It was a good day.”
