Tommy Robinson released from maximum security prison after nine weeks

Far Right activist Tommy Robinson has been released from a maximum security prison nine weeks into a 19 week sentence for contempt of court.

The English Defence League founder waved at supporters gathered outside HMP Belmarsh in south-east London.

The 36-year-old, whose real name in Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, denied he had done anything wrong despite being found guilty.

He emerged looking nearly unrecognisable with a beard and uncut hair and joked: “first stop, hairdressers” and “I know I look a mess.”

Robinson was sentenced to nine months in prison in July for putting a child sex ring trial in peril and encouraging “vigilante action” among his supporters.

He breached a reporting restriction order when he filmed himself approaching defendants outside Leeds crown court last May.

At the Old Bailey, Dame Victoria Sharp, sitting with Mr Justice Warby jailed Robinson, said the incident warranted a six month prison sentence.

They also activated a three-month suspended sentence for a previous contempt of court charge at a Canterbury trial.

But she said Robinson would serve a 19 week sentence from that date to reflect the time he has already served behind bars.

Far Right activist and supporter Danny Tommo tweeted a photo of Robinson as he walked free, writing #TommyRobinson is free!

A 'Free Tommy Robinson' march was staged in central London after he was jailed where police arrested 24 people.

One man was arrested after a police medic was dragged to the ground and kicked in the head during the demonstration.

Supporters of Robinson carried England and Union flags and umbrellas with his name on them.
