Tommy Fury's dad John details "positive" talks over Jake Paul fight next year

Tommy Fury's father John has revealed that positive talks have been held over staging a fight with Jake Paul next year.

Fury has come close to fighting Paul on two occasions with their first scheduled meeting last December ending after the Briton was forced to withdraw with a broken rib. Earlier this year, Paul rescheduled his bout with Fury at Madison Square Garden, but it was unable to take place after Fury was prevented from travelling to the US to take part in the event.

Both men now have separate opponents, with Fury set to return on the undercard of Floyd Mayweather's fight against Deji when he takes on Paul Bamba. But Fury Sr has revealed they will consider revisiting the fight with Paul next year and is happy for his son to receive the challenge of any other YouTube stars.

"I was sat with his people at the Joseph Parker, Joe Joyce fight and we talked about things," Fury Sr revealed in an exclusive chat with Mirror Fighting courtesy of FreeBets.com. "Everything was very positive. We want this to happen so we will be sitting down to sort it and make sure a deal will be finalised this time.

"The fight is very much alive. Take the Jake Paul it is what the fans want. Boxing is all about the entertainment business, and Tommy and Jake Paul is entertainment. It is off the richter scale with them two so they need to fight. There is plenty of time to fight anybody but we just want this Jake Paul thing sorted and it is a good fight for Tommy and Jake at this stage in their career.

"Tommy and Jake Paul is entertainment. They are both novice boxers and they both have egos as big as a London city so let them fight. But he is still a learning professional, so there has to be certain shows to put him on so he needs experience. These YouTubers we will take them all day long. We will accommodate Jake Paul next year."

Fury and Paul have gone back and forth on social media over a fight despite it's recent cancellation, with Paul once again reluctant to reschedule the fight. However the pair held a FaceTime call via unified champion Amanda Serrano, which saw the pair preview another potential outing.

Providing Paul can progress beyond UFC legend Anderson Silva later this month, a fight with Fury looks a realistic option if he is unable to fight Nate Diaz. And Paul has revealed that an agreement is close to being reached for a showdown in February.

“[I] had a call with Tommy Fury. Yeah, they’re saying we’re going to fight in February," he said on his 'BS' podcast. I think he [Fury] actually can’t come into the United States, so if I fight him in the UK [it can happen]. I think parts of it [him pulling out] are shady, I don’t think we are getting the full truth and everything. Regardless, it’s a great matchup and I really want to knock him out.”
