Tommy Fury is locked in talks to reschedule his fight with Jake Paul but the situation has a "long way to go" before being resolved.
The British star was set to meet Paul last year but a broken rib and chest infection forced him to withdraw from their planned December date. Paul has announced he will return to the ring on August 6 at Madison Square Garden, with Fury expected to be in the running to face him.
Despite the heated rivalry with his son, John Fury believes Paul is important for the sport and is bringing new eyes to all of his fights. "We’re looking at the Jake Paul situation but there’s a long way to go with it,’ Fury Senior told Metro, via Freebets. "That’s still in negotiation and up in the air, the lawyers are dealing with it as we speak. If not August for Tommy’s next fight, it’ll be September because we’re busy ourselves up until then.
"I’m not interested in what Jake Paul does unless we’re fighting him, but he’s good for boxing. He’s bringing new eyes and he’s making a lot of noise. We’re trying our best to get the fight with Tommy over the line, but there are a couple of major factors we’re trying to get ironed out and if we can, we’ll do it, and if we can’t it’ll be someone else. Whoever’s out there and it’s sensible, we’ll get it on."
Fury outpointed Daniel Bocianski on the undercard of his brother Tyson's title defence against Dillian Whyte back in April. His rival has not fought since knocking out Tyron Woodley in devastating fashion during their rematch back in December.
Paul has previously suggested that he will explore a number of options for his upcoming comeback bout, including UFC legend Anderson Silva and heavyweight legend Mike Tyson. But Tommy Fury is unwilling to wait around for any rescheduled date and believes his previous opponent would have "killed" the YouTube star.

"I just have one thing to say," he told BT Sport. "Jake Paul - this should have been done a long time ago in December and if you want it, I'm here and I'm ready for you. I'll cut you and chop you to bits just like I did there, get the contract signed you bum, let's get it done once and for all.
"That lad in there would have killed Jake Paul, that lad is a true professional. He was cut to bits, still in there giving me everything that he had, he'd slap Jake Paul and it'd be over. Jake Paul, I'm going to end your career, you're a bum and you're no good. Let's get this fight done and get this settled."
