Tommy Fury breaks silence on Drake $400k bet and Jake Paul 'excuse' for losing fight

Tommy Fury has spoken out following his split decision win against Jake Paul on Sunday night, criticising Drake for the $400k bet he placed on Paul to win the fight.

The fight saw the pair going the distance, with Fury boxing sensibly against the less experienced Paul, emerging as the winner of the fight despite being deducted a point for holding as well as hitting the floor in the final round. Many had predicted that Paul would emerge victorious and he was even the bookies' favourite going in to the contest.

One famous name who backed Paul to win was Drake, with the Canadian rapper posting a screenshot of the bet he made in the build-up to the fight, predicting that the American social media star would win by knockout. In an interview with IFL TV, filmed at the airport before departing Saudi Arabia, Fury slammed the bet saying that Drake was 'silly' for backing Paul.

He said: "He's lost a lot of money the silly fella, well he's not silly as $400k to him is like £4 to us - he won't be doing that again, will he?"

Fury continued the interview by opening up about Paul's claims of illness and injury in the build-up, claiming that he did not believe him due to to positivity which had been coming from the American until the fight was over.

"It is what it is, it wouldn't be my approach if I lost the fight," Fury said. "I'd say fair and square the better man won even if I had been ill. I don't believe that he's been ill, because he wasn't ill when he was posting all about how great his camp's been.

"I wouldn't buy into that, he got beaten fair and square last night. But if he wants to make excuses then he can do."

After the fight, he has said that he would be willing to entertain the prospect of a rematch, saying that he would be more experienced next time around and more likely to produce a better performance as a result. However, he also has the options of advancing within the WBC cruiserweight rankings having been given a ranking following his win.

He explained: "I've got more experience now. It was my first time ever in a big main event, a big worldwide fight and next time around it will be the same magnitude of event and I'll have that experience under my belt.

"I've been in the ring with Jake now, I know his weaknesses and I know his strengths and I believe if I had pressed the fight a little bit more yesterday then I would have got him out of there."
