Tommy Fleetwood makes announcement ahead of FedEx Cup Playoffs

Tommy Fleetwood will miss the upcoming FedEx Cup play-offs after announcing that he will be taking some time away from the golf course to spend time with his family.

The 31-year-old made the announcement on Twitter, stating that he would be spending some time with his family. Fleetwood, who is ranked 26th in the world, has not played since he tied for fourth at last month's British Open at St Andrews, with his mother having passed away the week after the tournament.

He has been at home in Southport ever since, and in the announcement, he said: "Well done and good luck to everyone that made the Fedex Playoffs. I’m taking time out to be at home with my family but look forward to returning to @PGATOUR @DPWorldTour soon." The news comes following the news of his mother's death in the week after the Open at St Andrews.

Fleetwood has enjoyed his best season in terms of major finishes, with top five showings at both the PGA Championship as well as the British Open and a top-15 at Augusta. However, having starred for Europe in last year's Ryder Cup he has not claimed a victory on either the PGA or European Tour since 2019.

Despite this, he is currently ranked 46th in the FedEx Cup rankings and would be eligible to compete in the next the first two events, next week’s FedEx St. Jude Invitational and the BMW Championship.
