Tommy Fleetwood joins elite group including LIV Golf's Norman and Koepka at US Open

Tommy Fleetwood has joined an illustrious group of players, after putting in a remarkable performance during the final round of the US Open at Los Angeles Country Club.

Fleetwood headed into the third major championship of the season in good form, but only just managed to secure a weekend spot after making the cut by a single shot. A level-par 70 then followed in round three, before he showed his true class on Sunday.

One of the early starters on the final day, not many eyes were on the Englishman heading out, but this soon changed as he made his way around the LA course.

Fleetwood flew out the blocks, carding three birdies and an eagle to leave him five-under-par for the day and four-under for the event after nine holes. He also added a fourth birdie and a second eagle of the day on the back nine to shoot a scintillating seven-under 63 on day four.

In shooting seven-under on Sunday, Fleetwood joined an illustrious group of just four other players who have recorded two rounds of 63 at major championships during their careers. His last came in the 2018 edition of the event, and he stands alone as the only player to shoot the score twice in a US Open.

Among the list of two-time 63 scorers at major championships is three-time winner Vijay Singh, and LIV duo Greg Norman and Brooks Koepka. Of course Fleetwood is the only man to not yet get over the line in one of golf's flagship events out of the elite group.

Fleetwood was unsurprisingly more impressed with becoming the only man to shoot two rounds of 63 at the US Open, and took to Twitter after his day's work to highlight the achievement. He tweeted: "After coming off disappointed it’s pretty cool to be the first human ever to shoot two 63s on a Sunday at a US Open!!!"

His impressive round four showing saw the Englishman jump up the leaderboard, having been well out of the mix heading into Sunday. His round of seven-under saw him finish the week at five-under four the tournament and looks to have been enough to secure a top-10 finish for a sixth time at a major championship.
