Tommy Eichenberg makes decision about Ohio State future

Count this one in the win column because Ohio State’s leading tackler, linebacker Tommy Eichenberg, will be coming back to Columbus for another season.

The news comes in the midst of other Buckeyes also announcing their decisions about the upcoming NFL draft. OSU has lost three starting offensive linemen to the upcoming draft, but offensive lineman Matthew Jones, running back Miyan Williams, and tight end Cade Stover will be coming back to join Eichenberg for another run at a Big Ten title and potential College Football Playoff berth.

Out of the pipeline Cleveland St. Ignatius, Eichenberg really thrived under Jim Knowles’ new defensive system and scheme, becoming the leader of the defense that included 112 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, and 2.5 sacks on the year. His performance earned him semifinal status for the Bednarik, Lott IMPACT Trophy, and Butkus Award.

He is a former four-star prospect that has a nose for the ball and should again be one of the key members of the Ohio State team that hopes to improve upon a disappointing finish to the 2023 season.
