Tomi Adeloye in heartfelt message to Ayr United fans as striker confirms Somerset Park exit

Tomi Adeloye has tonight paid tribute to Ayr United for helping get his career back on track - after confirming he is to leave Somerset Park.

Adeloye was last season's top scorer as he hit 14 goals on the way to claiming a raft of Player of the Year awards with the Honest Men.

But after a summer of talks over extending his stay, the 26-year-old has confirmed he will be pursuing other options.

Taking to his social media, he confirmed: "Sadly my time at @AyrUnitedFC has come to an end...a special club I will hold close to my heart.

"It was by no means an easy decision hence the delay in total clarity and putting this out. And half the stuff you read online isn't true.

"But hopefully people will respect my decision. The rest I'll leave to your imagination.

"I thank everyone that played a part in opening this door for me. I loved every minute, through the highs and lows I have grown as a man and got back to playing close to my best stuff with my best goal tally in my career to date.

"I want to thank the chairman, all the amazing staff for helping me find my feet, my team mates for helping me find my form and the supporters that backed and supported me which went a long way in helping me get my confidence back. Special bunch."

Adeloye added: "All the best going forward and I am positive the club will achieve what it's intending to do in the near future."

The former Barnet striker proved a big hit in his one and only Somerset season, with his goals proving pivotal to keeping Ayr in the Championship.

United had been keen to keep him on board but Adeloye, who has been linked to talks with Kilmarnock among others, has now chosen to move on.

Ayr have already bolstered their striking options with the capture of 19-goal Welling United striker Dipo Akinyeme.
