Tom Shanklin has players and fans in stitches with comedy Dwayne Peel handshake on live TV

Mischievous Tom Shanklin had former Wales stars and fans in stitches after his comedy handshake with Dwayne Peel on live TV.

Ross Harries, Shane Williams, Shanklin and Peel were on Viaplay (formerly Premier Sports) following the Scarlets' 28-22 victory over Cardiff Rugby at the Arms Park on the weekend. After Peel's media duties had concluded, he shook hands with everyone, making his way finally to Shanklin.

Shanklin shook Peel's hand and held it firm for far, far longer than was required, all whilst maintaining a comical straight face. Williams was cracking up as Peel held in his laughter before he eased out of shot.

Shanklin posted a clip of the incident on Twitter, and it has already picked up over half a million views. It was captioned "The Classic Shake".

You can watch the brilliant moment below.

Shanklin had fellow former Wales internationals in stitches on Twitter.

The gag has been compared to the iconic Carl Froch v George Groves handshake during Sky's The Gloves Are Off programme, prior to their rematch. Groves was pulling their handshake towards himself, when Froch yanked Groves the other way and said "we can all pull about, we can all have a pull and a push". Shanklin retweeted a post making the comparison.

The former Cardiff Rugby man has built a comedic presence in his life after rugby, and is well known for his deadpan humour., most notably on his podcast 'Flats and Shanks' with former England man David Flatman.

The rugby media found it hilarious.

"That's beautiful. Little smirk at the end too. 10 out of 10." wrote Rugby World columnist Paul Williams.

"You absolute idiot. Made me LOL." said BBC Wales' Beth Fisher.
