Tom Rogic has been snapped back home in Sydney with the former Celtic star still looking for a new club,
The Australian international brought his nine-year Parkhead stay to an end this summer, leaving the Premiership champions despite having a year left to run on his contract. Socceroos boss Graham Arnold admitted recently that he was “concerned” about Rogic after the midfielder didn’t reply to the national boss’ texts. Rogic withdrew from the squad to face Peru in the intercontinental World Cup play-off final against Peru, which the Aussies won on penalties to book their spot in Qatar. The 29-year-old pulled out due to personal reasons.
Rogic looked set for a big money move to Indonesia after leaving the Hoops. But he turned down the chance to sign for Persia Jakarta and remains unattached. He’s now back Down Under and training on his own, but Arnold is still none the wiser as to what the situation is with the former Central Coast Mariners man, saying: “I know that Tommy is back in Sydney.
“I’ve obviously [been] reaching out to Tommy but we have no further confirmation of what his future is at this moment. That’s his agent’s job, to find that new club. But of course, once he does get that club, I’m sure we’ll speak.”
There is understood to be A-League interest in Rogic and a return could appeal with the World Cup finals on the Horizon. The latest development will only fuel rumours that he is set to continue his career back where it started and a return to Europe looking unlikely.
