Tom Rogic post Celtic joy as Hoops hero hits first West Brom goal with stunner vs Sunderland

Tom Rogic got off the mark for West Brom as the Celtic star netted a stunner in a comeback win over Sunderland.

The Hoops hero departed Parkhead in the summer after a trophy-laden stay in Glasgow for a new challenge. After a couple of months out in the wilderness, the midfielder put pen to paper at the Hawthorns as he took on a new challenge at the English Championship side. He missed out on a spot in Australia's World Cup squad due to a lack of first-team action in the build-up to the finals but he showed no signs of disappointment with a goal witnessed over the years by Celts fans.

His new side were trailing with 20 minutes to play before a cross into the box was played into the path of Rogic and he made no mistake as he superbly arrowed his effort into the bottom corner, leaving Anthony Patterson in the Black Cats goal helpless. That strike sparked the visitors into life and they grabbed the winner 12 minutes later to secure a huge three points on the road. The result lifted Rogic and Co into 17th spot on 26 points and out of the relegation places.

Reacting to a massive result, boss Carlos Corberan told West Brom's official website : “I think that we struggled to adapt to the intensity of the game early on.

“They played at a better intensity than us in the first periods, maybe because of the fact that they played a competitive game last weekend.

“Sometimes when you play away from home and the hosts are putting a lot of pressure on you, you can find it difficult to adapt and force your own style on the game.

“They got their goal and then after that they started to get a little deeper and we were able to counter when they came forward. We started to gain confidence and that helped us improve our belief that we could win the game.

“Our team showed a lot of mentality and a lot of spirit tonight. We played with the kind of spirit that can help change results, and thankfully that’s what happened.

“We know that every player is important to us and every player can contribute when they are fit. We have a very strong squad and a very strong group of players.

“We want every player to be available and to be fit and to be giving the same level of commitment.

“I have to say thank you to the fans. I feel so proud of them. I hope they enjoyed tonight and I know they’ll go home enjoying the feeling of winning. Everything we do is for them.”
