Tom Rogic in surprise post Celtic move as playmaker pulls out of Australia World Cup playoff for 'personal reasons'

Former Celtic midfielder Tom Rogic has pulled out of the Australia squad ahead of their crucial World Cup playoff.

Rogic left Parkhead on the back of one of his best ever seasons in the green and white Hoops.

He enjoyed a renaissance under his former Australia boss Ange Postecoglou as he claimed his seventh league title in Scotland to bring the curtain down on almost a decade at the club.

His Celtic form saw Rogic rewarded with the PFA Player of the Year in Australia for the first time.

However, he will be missing for the national side for the friendly with Jordan and the crucial playoff clash with UAE as they look to book their place at Qatar 2022.

A statement from the national football association revealed the decision was due to personal reasons.

Socceroos Head Coach Graham Arnold said: “My focus must now be on the players we have here in Qatar.

“We have selected an extended squad of quality players and I believe that we will achieve something special for Australia over the next two weeks.”
