Tom Rogic in Celtic injury sweat as he drops out of Australia squad with ankle knock

Tom Rogic has pulled out of the Australia squad after being crocked in Celtic 's 4-0 thumping of Ross County - sparking fears he could be a doubt for the Old Firm in 13 days' time.

The midfielder came off just over half an hour into Saturday's clash at Parkhead after a crunching tackle from Staggies defender Kayne Ramsay.

That earned the County man a red card and while Rogic attempted to play on he lasted only another five minutes.

The 29-year-old hoped to recover in time for the Socceroos' World Cup qualifying double header with Japan and Saudi Arabia on Thursday and next Tuesday.

Ange Postecoglou was confident he would be okay to travel too, saying: "He got a knock on his ankle and it isn’t great but we got the ice on him at half-time and we seem to think it isn’t too bad.”

But Record Sport can reveal Rogic has withdrawn from the Aussie squad and will now concentrate on his fitness ahead of the Old Firm clash at Ibrox on April 3.

Referee Don Robertson wasted no time in sending Ramsay off after the shuddering challenge in the 28th minute of Saturday's match.

However County boss Malky Mackay jumped to Ramsay's defence after the game.

He said: “I looked at it again quite quickly. His right foot comes through and takes the ball, I didn’t think there was a tackle on that foot. His momentum coming through sees his left foot come off the ground and that gives the referee the sending off.

"Letter of the law you could say his feet are off the ground but I don’t think there was any malice in it.

“It’s not something he meant to do and he clearly got the ball and played it away with that touch. At that point the crowd are shouting and the referee gives it.

"Could it have been a yellow? Yeah, maybe. I asked the referee if he was sure. He said the two feet were up off the ground. It’s one of those things, we get on with it."
