Tom Parker on the heartbreaking moment he found out he had cancer as he 'feared dying'

Tom Parker admitted he feared dying when he found out he had been diagnosed with cancer.

The Wanted singer tragically passed away today at the age of 33 and in a heartbreaking appearance on Channel 4's Stand Up To Cancer, Tom explained how he was alone when he found out he had an inoperable brain tumour.

In a poignant and heartbreaking chat, Tom explained how his wife Kelsey couldn't be with him due to Covid restrictions, as he admitted he was convinced the doctor had made a mistake.

He remembered telling the doctor who was treating him: "No, you’ve got it wrong."

"It was an emotive moment to say the least," he recalled in a chat with Davina McCall on Stand Up To Cancer, "I was on my own in hospital because of Covid restrictions. So, there was literally nobody else there with me - I was alone.

"The doctors whipped around the curtain around my bed and told me I have a brain tumour, and I was like ‘No, you’ve got it wrong. It must be a mistake. I’m only 32. I really thought they had made a mistake."

Tom explained that cancer could "consume" him if he wasn't careful - as he vowed to fight for his children.

"Cancer can consume you very quickly and very easily. There was a time at the start of this journey where I couldn't get out of bed. I was so consumed by cancer. It wasn't the physical side of things, it was the mental side of things," he said.

"I kept thinking 'I'm going to die, so what's the point in getting out of bed?'"

His wife Kelsey confirmed Tom had passed away earlier today, surrounded by his family and friends.

"It is with the heaviest of hearts that we confirm Tom passed away peacefully earlier today with all of his family by his side. Our hearts are broken, Tom was the centre of our world, we can’t imagine life without his infectious smile and energetic presence," she wrote.

"We are truly thankful for the outpouring of love and support and ask that we all unite to ensure Tom’s light continues to shine for his beautiful children. Thank you to everyone who has supported in his care throughout, he fought until the very end."

She ended her post on Instagram with a message to Tom: "I’m forever proud of you."
