Tom Lockyer update as Wales star still in hospital after collapse

Luton Town boss Rob Edwards says his side have kept regular contact with captain Tom Lockyer, who remains in hospital after collapsing during Saturday's play-off final.

The Welshman went down off the ball within the opening 10 minutes of the game with Coventry City, and required attention from both sets of medical teams before being stretchered off.

He was seen taking oxygen as he left the field, and was then rushed off to hospital for further assessments.

The Hatters went on to secure a historic promotion the Premier League by seeing off the Sky Blues on penalties, much to the delight of Lockyer, who was seen celebrating the win with his family from his hospital bed.

Luton's triumphant heroes then paraded Lockyer's shirt at full-time in tribute to their skipper, who remains under observation.

Asked on the defender's condition, Edwards told BBC Radio 5 Live: "He's OK, he is still in hospital at the moment. He is having lots of tests and checks and is with the best people.

"We have all been in touch with him and been speaking to him every day," added Edwards.

"He was texting me and expecting to come home on Tuesday. I'm not sure that's definitely the case, but that is what he was saying so we'll see."

Despite showing positive signs of progress, Lockyer has been omitted from Rob Page's latest Wales squad for the upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers with Armenia and Turkey this summer.

"He is not going to be fit for the two games," Page said.

"I can't speak from a medical point of view but of course you don't like to see any player go down injured, and because of how he went down, you do wonder what the reasons were.

"But it would be silly of me to even suggest what those reasons were. He is in good hands at the minute and it's for Luton to make a statement with regards to what they are doing.

"For us it's just about getting him fit and ready for our camp in September.

"I have got to think long term and for me as soon as he is fit again, he will be back involved."
