Tom Lawrence in Rangers Champions League injury sweat after 'bad tackle' results in PSV concern

Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst has confirmed Tom Lawrence is in a race against time to be fit for Wednesday's huge match with PSV.

The summer recruit from Derby County nodded in the Ibrox club's second goal during a controversial 2-2 Premiership draw with Hibs where teammates John Lundstram and Alfredo Morelos were sent off. There's no time to dwell with a must-win Champions League play-off second leg coming up in the Netherlands, which would move them into the competition's group phase. It stands at 2-2 after the first leg.

Lawrence has impressed since coming to Rangers but van Bronckhorst says an ankle problem has emerged and leaves his chances of featuring in it in doubt. He told Sky Sports: "It was a good move, a good attack. Great cross, great goal. He was caught in a bad tackle and twisted his ankle a little bit so we took him off.

"We have to see if he is fit for Wednesday. It was a game where a lot of things happened. It was a very physical game and after the two red cards we were fighting to get the win.

"It was always going to be difficult but we almost succeeded in getting the three points. In injury time the ball fell in the right position and they could score the equaliser.

"It cost us a lot of energy with nine men to prevent them scoring and we worked hard to deny them the goal but in the end we just came up short."
