Tom Kerridge tells Instagram critic of his £37 fish and chips: 'Stop being a d***'

Top chef Tom Kerridge has hit out at a customer as a “d***” after he complained that the celebrity chef's expensive dish and chips looked like something from a supermarket frozen food aisle.

The Michelin-starred chef previously came under fire for the £37 price tag for the dish at Kerridge’s Fish and Chips eatery in Harrods.

Poking fun at the controversy, the 50-year-old told his Instagram followers: “'I know my fish and chips are always a hot topic. And in my opinion, you absolutely can't beat a good fish and chippy tea.

“The fish and chips at Kerridge's Bar and Grill is a real crowd pleaser.”

One responder to the post, Robbie McKye, said: “'Looks like something you'd get in the frozen aisle. Poor.”

In response the top chef said: “Robbie, sad post mate. Cheer up buddy, say something nice, don't be a d***. It's not a good look.”

Another social media user replied: “He talks the talk but a chippy tea don’t cost £37 anywhere decent in Yorkshire will get you a decent fresh fish and chips using top notch ingredients for just over a tenner.”

A third added: “Price tag is a bit much though isn’t it?”

Kerridge – who has previously dealt with criticism of his prices in the past, including for an £87 sirloin steak in his Buckinghamshire pub - said after the pricing row that he had learned to not let the backlash affect him.

He told the Radio Times in an interview: “I’m seen as a man of the people, so when I put fish and chips on for £35, they shout at me for it being expensive.

“But the people criticising me don’t understand how it’s priced. Fish and chips was always seen as cheap, fast food, and I get that because of where I grew up.”

The two-Michelin-starred chef, who runs eight restaurants, has also increased the price of his hand-cut triple cooked chips and lobster.

Kerridge's thick cut chips will now set customers back £9.50, having previously been priced at £8.50.
