SPIDER-man actor Tom Holland’s dad Dom has revealed how he turned down several offers to do a Keeping Up with the Kardashians-esque show.
Holland senior told The Londoner that big companies told him “we can offer you untold riches” but he declined, saying: “I couldn’t imagine anything worse”.
Comedian Dom, said being the parent of a successful child can lead some parents to have the “green-eyed monster”, but he is “cock-a-hoop” for his son. Dom’s memoir, Eclipsed, which features the actor, is on audiobook this week.
Dominic added that Tom’s fame means “you find out who your friends are” as “some people will be delighted for you, and some people won’t be able to speak about it”.
Until recently, actor Tom regularly stayed in his family’s Kingston home. He is dating fellow Spiderman star Zendaya, with the pair snapped together in the area during a UK visit.
Dominic said: “I speak to Tom at least three times a week”. “It’s normally just cursory ‘How you doing? Things okay?’ Just assuring each other that we’re both okay. Or you know, that his film is going okay and he’s in good shape”.
He added that he hopes Tom “manages his fame” like low profile Cillian Murphy, not becoming too focused on the celebrity side. “I think I think there are ways to be famous which are more productive and healthy” he said.
Dominic won the best newcomer award at Edinburgh in 1993 for his stand up show. He gave Tom advice at the beginning of his career about how to manage the world of fame. He went to Hollywood to make movies, but admits he wasn’t as successful as his son has been.
In the new audiobook, he reads his memoir about his own showbusiness career, and then he and Tom reminisce about some of the anecdotes.
